28 Unconfirmed Passengers Feared Dead in Kenyan Incident

About 28 unconfirmed passengers are feared dead after a boat capsized in Kenya’s northeastern area of Madogo. The incident occurred as the boat navigated through flooded waters en route from Kona Punda to Garissa town on Sunday evening.

Ali Roba, the senator of neighboring Mandera county, reported that 28 people are believed to have lost their lives in the tragic accident. However, authorities have yet to confirm the final death toll as rescue efforts continue.

Kenya Red Cross has confirmed that 23 individuals have been rescued from the waters and are currently receiving medical attention at a local hospital. The exact number of passengers onboard remains unclear, but reports suggest that the boat was carrying a “large number of people” at the time of the incident.

Local authorities and rescue teams are intensifying search operations to locate any missing passengers. The cause of the flooding in the area has been attributed to the overflowing of dams upstream, exacerbated by heavy rains.
