Algerian Man Missing for Decades Found Held Captive by Neighbor

An astonishing tale of captivity and survival has emerged from the northern Djelfa province of Algeria, where an Algerian man, missing for over 25 years, was discovered imprisoned in his neighbor’s residence, according to reports from local media outlets and authorities.

The individual in question, identified as Bin Omran Omar, reportedly vanished from public view between 1996 and 1998, a period marked by the tumultuous Algerian civil war. The startling revelation of his whereabouts came to light when authorities uncovered him in an underground cavity concealed beneath layers of hay, as detailed by the daily Echorouk newspaper.

Reports indicate that Omar, now in his mid-40s, conveyed to authorities a harrowing account of his confinement, alleging that his captor had ensnared him through the use of mystical incantations, rendering him voiceless and incapable of seeking assistance. The circumstances of his captivity, shrouded in mystery and intrigue, have captivated both local and international audiences.

According to AFP news agency, citing local media sources, the unraveling of Omar’s captivity was precipitated by a familial dispute over inheritance. Allegedly, the brother of Omar’s captor took to social media to expose his sibling’s malevolent actions, sparking a chain of events that ultimately led to Omar’s liberation.

In the wake of his rescue, Omar is now under the care of medical professionals, undergoing evaluation and treatment to address the physical and psychological toll of his prolonged captivity. Meanwhile, authorities have taken swift action, apprehending the alleged captor, a 61-year-old man, who now faces legal repercussions for his purported role in Omar’s prolonged ordeal.
